Gary A. Miller, CFA

Gary A. Miller, CFA is Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Frontier Asset Management, LLC, a firm he founded in 2000. He also serves as Chairman of Frontier’s Investment Committee.

Mr. Miller has been in the investment management business since 1985 and has been managing portfolios of mutual funds since 1987. He has served as Chief Investment Officer for firms providing portfolio management services to independent financial advisors and for firms providing investment consulting services to institutional clients.

Mr. Miller is an industry innovator with expertise in manager due diligence, asset allocation and portfolio design. He is the developer of Frontier’s investment process, Complementary Genius. He is also recognized as a developer and the first practitioner to use returns-based style analysis to evaluate managers and design portfolios.

Mr. Miller’s research has been featured in numerous financial journals and he has spoken about asset allocation, style analysis and portfolio construction at the national conferences of numerous financial advisory organizations.

Mr. Miller earned his MS in Management, concentrating in investment management, from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1985, where he was a Presidential Fellow. He earned his BS degree in environmental resources engineering from Humboldt State University. Mr. Miller is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder and a member of the CFA Institute.


Scott A. MacKillop

Scott A. MacKillop, JD is President and Chief Compliance Officer of Frontier. Mr. MacKillop joined the firm in 2007.

Mr. MacKillop began his career in the financial services industry over 33 years ago as a lawyer in Washington, DC. His clients included asset management and investment consulting firms, mutual funds, insurance companies, employee benefit plans and venture capital firms, among others.

Before arriving at Frontier Mr. MacKillop served as president of three investment management firms, one consulting firm and was vice president of a pension consulting firm that served pension plans, foundations and endowments.

Mr. MacKillop was involved in the development of some of the first managed account programs for independent financial advisors. He is a student of behavioral finance and was an early advocate of applying its principals to the providing of financial advice.

Scott speaks frequently at industry gatherings and has authored numerous articles on investment-related topics.

Mr. MacKillop received a BA from Stanford University and a JD (with Honors) from George Washington University Law School.


Geremy van Arkel, CFA

Geremy van Arkel, CFA is a Principal of Frontier Asset Management. Mr. van Arkel joined the firm in 2002.

Mr. van Arkel’s primary responsibilities at Frontier are mutual fund due diligence and working with financial advisors that use Frontier’s investment management services. He is a member of Frontier’s investment committee and provides insight into the qualitative aspects of investment manager due diligence. Geremy has spoken frequently at industry conferences about mutual fund selection, asset allocation techniques and portfolio management.

Mr. van Arkel has been involved in the construction of portfolios of mutual funds since 1993. He also has extensive experience in the evaluation of separate account managers. Mr. van Arkel has worked for Optima Funds Management and ADAM Investment Services and served as the Manager of Investment Analysis at Envestnet Asset Management, one of the country’s largest providers of managed accounts to independent financial advisors.

Geremy earned his BBA in Finance from Stetson University with a concentration in Investments and completed the prestigious Roland George Investments Program. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.


Robert E. Miller, CFA

Robert E. Miller, CFA is a Principal of Frontier Asset Management. Mr. Miller joined the firm in 2000 and became a Principal in 2006.

Mr. Miller is responsible for the investment management of all mutual fund client accounts and has been involved in the management of mutual fund portfolios since 1999. He is a member of Frontier’s investment committee.

Mr. Miller is the driving force behind Frontier’s back-office operations. He automated the portfolio optimization and account management systems and developed the tax management system for taxable clients, the periodic withdrawal system for clients requiring distributions and the automated trading system. He also oversees the mutual fund “hire” list.

Rob earned his BA in economics from Whitman College with a minor in computer science. He is a member of the Endowment Committee for St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. He is a board member of Volunteers of America for Wyoming and Montana. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Colorado.


David W. Nelson, CIMC, CIMA

David Wm. Nelson, CIMC, CIMA is Managing Director at Frontier. Mr. Nelson joined the firm in 2009.

Mr. Nelson has over twenty years of investment industry experience. Before joining Frontier, he was involved in portfolio development while at Bank of America’s Consulting Services Division. Client portfolios ranged in size up to $65 million and included SMAs, mutual funds, ETFs, and alternative investments, such as private equity, hedge funds and real estate.

Previously, at INVESCO subsidiary AIM Private Asset Management, Mr. Nelson spearheaded efforts to offer SMAs in major wire houses and independent broker/dealers. He also authored a number of publications on various aspects of practice management and spoke nationally on these topics. He also co-authored a chapter on mutual fund due-diligence for the College of Financial Planning.

Mr. Nelson received both his MBA and his BA (cum laude) from the University of Denver. Dave holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) and Certified Investment management Consultant (CIMC) designations, as well as FINRA Series 7, 24, 27, 63 and 65 licenses.


Charles C. Burgess, CFA

Charles Burgess, CFA, Investment Analyst, has worked for Frontier for five years. He is a member of Frontier’s investment committee.

Mr. Burgess has been working in the investment management industry since 2002. He is responsible for monitoring Frontier’s mutual fund database and preparing due diligence reports for use by the investment committee. Mr. Burgess also does research and special projects, particularly related to asset allocation and investment manager selection.

Mr. Burgess earned a BS in Finance with an emphasis in banking and financial services from the University of Wyoming. He serves as a board member of the Big Horn Education Fund, which provides scholarships for graduating seniors in Wyoming. Chuck is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Colorado.


Cristine M. Calkins

Cristine Calkins is an Account Manager at Frontier. She joined the firm in 2006.

Mrs. Calkins comes to Frontier with seven years of investment experience at a wire house brokerage firm. Her primary responsibilities at Frontier include establishing client accounts, providing ongoing advisor services and trading.

Cristine attended Sheridan College. She holds a Series 63-Uniform State Exam license.


Erin M. Foote

Erin Foote is the Senior Account Manager at Frontier. Mrs. Foote joined the firm in 2002.

Erin is responsible for overseeing the operational needs of Frontier’s advisors. She is in charge of all new accounts and supervises trading. In addition, she heads up quarterly performance reporting and billing.

Mrs. Foote earned a BS in Finance with an emphasis in Banking and Financial Services from the University of Wyoming.


Brenda L. Jacobs

Brenda Jacobs is an Account Manager at Frontier. She joined the firm in 2008.

Mrs. Jacobs is responsible for providing account support to advisors. She also maintains Frontier’s website and provides graphic design services. Brenda brings a wide range of skills gained from her experience as a consultant for Accenture and as a web developer/marketing associate for an agricultural company.

Mrs. Jacobs earned a BA in French from the University of Wyoming.


Krista Jorgenson

Krista Jorgenson is the Operations Specialist at Frontier. She joined the firm in 2009.

Ms. Jorgenson brings twelve years of business experience in sales, marketing and operations to Frontier. She assists the operations and marketing team at Frontier.

Ms. Jorgenson earned a BA in English from Montana State University-Bozeman.


Autumn Roberts

Autumn Roberts is the Administrative Assistant at Frontier. Mrs. Roberts joined the firm in 2010.

Autumn is responsible for performing and coordinating the firm’s administrative activities and storing, retrieving, and integrating information for dissemination to staff.

Mrs. Roberts attended Central Wyoming College where she acquired an A.A. in Social Science.
